Neverever – Coconut Shampoo

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Another summer missive from Slumberland. This vid outshines their full-length wax. To put it nastily, this might be the only thing to imprint Neverever on your mind and that’s not said in the way of an overstatement nor understating their caliber. This is a classy happy pill. Period.

Judging from her name “Jihae Jean Simmons” and semblance, she certainly is a half-korean like Karen-O. She is born and raised in LA, but it’s Glasgow where she came into view as an indie pop coquette with her vexed amiability, haughty charm and outrageous sexiness, not to mention striking vocals, by participating in the local pop phenomenon known as The Royal We who interestingly featured Roxanne and what’s-his-name guy of then-yet-to-come Veronica Falls, now undoubted London’s sweetest.

Jihae attended art school in Glasgow, and in the meatime she played a pivotal part in a short-lived, cruelly neglected saccharin bombshell The Royal We (“The world would be all wrong if Everett True wasn’t into The Royal We,” writes Stephen Pastel, The Pastels and Geographic label boss), then returned to her hometown, LA and thereafter she formed Neverever with her boyfriend. I hope for The Royal We reunion.
