Children’s Hospital – Alone Together (2008, Sacred Bones)

Posted in music by okkame on August 22, 2010

It’s almost futile to give the lie to Sacred Bones’ cred as far as the contemporary DIY music battlefield (I like Termbo/Brooklyn Vegan’s venomous comments as I am also an adept shittalker) is concerned, whether you scoff at Zola Jesus’s hog-fied Grace Slick grunting (it’s actually not bad) or you are simply going to hongkong imagining simultaneous sex with all of Effi Briest chicks (who the moron said they suck live?), while awaiting next VICE’s Album Of The Month of their imprint.

I gather many of  the better brooklyn hipsters are friends of theirs, but even you’re so, you must admit they could release an album on the level of suck. Anyways, this Children’s Hospital stuff is the one that solidified my pro-Sacred Bones stance, although I might be on the con-Zola Jesus side. By the time I visit Academy Record Annex in my full hipster swing (Ok, mathematically near-zero possibility), no doubt this album will already have been mine (and who can resist buying Sacred Bones vinyls in front of their chichi presence?). In my opinion, a crucial listen for fellows who concern anglo art punk fuckery + enchanting Boy-Girl copulation which is literally SEXY.

Alone Together is the debut release from Children’s Hospital. If their despondent sounds remind you of something you may have once heard its because this is the latest project from the A-Frames/Intelligence/Rodent Plague/AFCGT axis. Reminiscent of the brooding and gray skyline of their hometown of Seattle the duo hover between abstract soundscape compositions, Jandek inspired bouts of melancholy droned out dementia, and stripped apart abrasive punk…often combining several of the forms at once. If recent Rodent Plague releases on Killshaman and Jerkave Tapes are any indication it would be ill-advised to sleep on Children’s Hospital. – From the label.

quite surprised at the surveillance range of Sacred Bones. I surrender. Stay boned, someday my luck would repay you for this acquittal.
