Obnox aka Lamont ‘Bim’ Thomas

Posted in boys, music by okkame on November 17, 2012

Just hepped myself to Obnox, a formidable side project of Lamont ‘Bim’ Thomas, the pounding attention getter of Cleveland’s mighty Puffy Areolas dubbed by some as punk rock’s Elvin Jones. I can still sense the echoes of my body screaming in an ecstasy of pulverization, and thank goodness all my beautiful, svelte digits are intact – otherwise, how do you think I am doing this right now?

So, Obnox’s “Marcy May” is the best jammer/shredder/bomber or whatever you feel comfortable to praise/phrase it as I’ve heard this year so far. Just fuck that silence, open and blow yourself up to this big fucking noise and then you’ll be eternally grateful to yourself for the things to swallow you. Thank you ! that means Thank me !

I annexed the below write-up to mine since the descriptions seemed apt overall. More exclamation marks would have made it look better though.

get ready for your ears to explode!!!! OBNOX just released his much anticipated follow up to last year’s demonic noisy killer LP I’M BLEEDING NOW (12xU/smog veil)……entitled ROJO and brought to you by the fine folks at PERMANENT RECORDS, this new long player is GONNA STRAIGHT UP DESTROY YR MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

…….combining the thrash of hardcore, the pummeling stomp of garage rock, the drone of krautrock and the free jazz skronk of the impulse/esp records masters……OBNOX has constructed / deconstructed the best NOISE ROCK ALBUMS OF THE YEAR…….

…..especially those who love his other bands – BASSHOLES, THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY and PUFFY AREOLAS…..and/or fans of ALBERT AYLER, MONOSHOCK, WOLF EYES, BLUE CHEER, FLYING LUTTENBACHERS, SONIC YOUTH, HAWKWIND and ORNETTE COLEMAN…….. OBNOX described his new LP as “noisy as fuck with some kind of African freakbeat, and with some sprinkles of Can!”…. i agree, but i’d go even farther and say if that he seemingly melts all these disparate avant influences into one HELL OF A GIANT GLORIOUS MESS THAT YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO STOP SPINNING………

Okkame, that is very nice, thank you. I got to hang out with Bim the other night for the first time in a while, saw Obnox play and bought copies of Corrupt Free Enterprise and Smoke Woody Haze- Never a dull moment or song.
